A hand often appears in my work. Usually the hand portrayed is my own left hand, and therefore may be called a self-portrait, or a partial self-portrait. But also I can’t help but be reminded of the Scripture that I grew up with, “With a strong hand and an outstretched arm He brought us out of Egypt.” (reference). My father had a wonderful Hagaddah illustrated by Leonard Baskin; I will never forget the powerful illustration of the hand of God leading the children of Israel out of Egypt.
